Mant's Landing in Brewster

We were at Mant's Landing Beach the other night. I was hoping to get some nice sunset shots, but as we approached about ten minutes before sunset, I noticed all the clouds and figured it wouldn't be much. Boy, was I wrong! As the sun peeked out from under the clouds as it made its descent, it lit up the sky and the water in fantastic colors! So I did get some nice shots and today I painted this.
The lighting is a little off in my photo of the painting but you get the idea. Mant's Landing Beach is the beach just east of Paine's Creek Beach.

An Award!

I just got a call from Cape Cod Art Association telling me that my painting, "The Final Turn" received an Honorable Mention Award at the Founders Exhibit. The exhibit opens with a reception from 4-6 pm this Friday and runs through August 10th.

Cape Cod Art Association

They like me....they really like me!
Pardon the Sally Field impersonation......

but I am now a juried artist member of The Cape Cod Art Association. I had five paintings juried and they decided I was worthy! Basically what that means is that I can participate in all their exhibits and get a discount on classes, etc.
The next exhibit opens this Friday and I can submit two pieces. All the work is available for sale.
So, take a ride on over to their gallery on Route 6A and you'll see my two works "The Reader" and "The Final Turn" among the offerings.

Finally!

I finally had time to work on my latest piece.
Paines Creek is a popular bayside beach in Brewster. At low tide, you can walk out a mile on the flats, stopping to play in the tidal pools. The past few years the grass has really grown....making it a little harder to swim, but I think it's pretty. In this painting it is low tide at mid-day with the sun reflecting off the grass.

setting up the studio

My new easel arrived today, so to make room for it I decided it was time to do over the whole workroom. I purged all the sewing stuff, moved around the tables in different ways but ended up putting them back where they were and arranged all my pastels on the table next to the easel.
I cleaned out the closet and stacked all my papers and boards on the shelves. Everything is now airy and organized and I'm ready to get painting again!
The last couple of days, i traveled around the Cape and took reference photos for future paintings. I'm so full of ideas....I have to organize my thoughts and make a schedule. Between painting and learning more techniques, taking photos and everything else that I have to do in my regular life,I have been one busy gal!
I didn't have to go too far to find a perfect photo for a future painting. ....my rose garden! Get a look at this..... this photo already looks like a painting.....

So, I'm looking forward to doing that one!
Hopefully in a week or so I'll have more work to post pictures of.

I recently had five of my pieces professionally framed....my rooms look like a gallery now!
